WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's lacrosse team (1-8) couldn't hold down a hard-charging Embry-Riddle (Fla.) (8-2) squad in a 23-9 setback Tuesday afternoon at Electric Supply Company Stadium.
Trailing by a 9-8 score at halftime, the Eagles responded by scoring all 15 goals after the break on their way to their fourth straight victory. Embry-Riddle was led by Connor Bullock (Castle Rock, Colo.) with five scores and an assist while Kyle Dalrymple (Buffalo, N.Y.) added four goals in the victory.
The Bulldogs – who led by a 4-0 score for the second straight home game – were paced by sophomore midfielder Jake Copio (Smyrna, Del.) with three goals while freshman attacker Mason Chaney (Dunkirk, Md.) and freshman midfielder Hunter Huxoll (Dunkirk, Md.) both scored twice in the losing effort. Barton also led by a 7-3 score early in the second period in the setback.
Dalrymple broke a nine-all tie with the match-winner at the 11:26 mark of the third period as the Eagles held the edge in both shots taken (53-28) and ground balls (53-22). In goal, Embry-Riddle's Lucas Fraser (Detroit, Mich.) earned the win after making seven saves while Barton freshman Trevor Witholt (Murrieta, Calif.) stopped nine shots in the first half but sophomore Matt Stocks (Endicott, N.Y.) suffered the loss.
Barton returns to Conference Carolinas play on Saturday when the Bulldogs take on Lees-McRae on Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m., at home while Embry-Riddle hosts Palm Beach Atlantic in the Sunshine State Conference opener Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
