GREENWOOD, S.C. – The Barton men's basketball team (3-4) made a valiant comeback in the second half but fell short to Lander (5-2), 93-84, Tuesday evening at Horne Arena.
Tyler Brevard (Blythewood, S.C.) led all scorers with 26 points for the Bearcats, who jumped out to a 72-53 advantage with 9:36 remaining in the contest and held on in the end for the win. Lander's Deon Berrien (Augusta, Ga.) added 17 points off the bench as the Bearcats shot 53 percent (33-of-62) in the victory.
Barton junior forward Isaiah Reddish (Durham, N.C.) scored a team-high 21 points off the bench as the Bulldogs cut the deficit to four points on two occasions – 84-80 and 86-62 – with just under two minutes left but the visitors couldn't get any closer.
Lander responded with five straight points to put the game away and improved to 3-0 at home this season. Reddish was one of five players to reach double figures for the Bulldogs. Barton senior guard Michael Boykin (Clinton, N.C.) added 16 points and senior forward Isaiah Buck-Lowman (Woodbridge, Va.) scored 15 points and hit three treys in the losing effort.
Barton next travels to Augusta, Ga., to take on Augusta on Saturday, November 30, beginning at Noon while Lander faces Coker in Hartsville, S.C., on Wednesday, December 11, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
