Barton men’s basketball earns first win of the year, 87-83 over Concord

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Barton men's basketball team (1-3) won its first game of the 2019-20 season with a come-from-behind, 87-83 triumph over Concord (1-2) Friday evening at the 54th annual Pickle Classic at Kornegay Arena on the campus of the University of Mount Olive.

Barton senior guard Michael Boykin (Clinton, N.C.) scored a career-high 33 points while junior forward Isaiah Reddish (Durham, N.C.) added a double-double – 14 points and 12 rebounds – as the Bulldogs rallied from a 39-27 deficit with 3:46 remaining in the first half to take the win.  Concord led at halftime by a 40-33 score.

Concord's Simun Kovac (Ljubuski, BOSNIA) scored a team-high 16 points and was one of four players in double figures for the Mountain Lions in the losing effort.  The Mountain Lions hit 11 treys in the setback as well.

Barton scored 54 points after halftime and hit 18-of-30 field goal attempts – 60 percent – in the second half in the victory.  Boykin also hit six treys while senior forward Isaiah Buck-Lowman (Woodbridge, Va.) broke a 69-all tie with the game-winning shot with five minutes left.  Buck-Lowman finished with 11 points and the Bulldogs never trailed the rest of the way.

On the final day of the Pickle Classic on Saturday, Barton takes on Virginia State at 5:00 p.m., while Concord takes on the host, Mount Olive, at 7:00 p.m.
