GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Barton baseball team (23-14, 11-7) salvaged a Conference Carolinas doubleheader split on the road against Limestone (12-23, 7-11) Saturday afternoon at Founders FCU Stadium.  The Saints rallied to win game one by a 10-8 score while Barton prevailed in the nightcap, 7-2.

Game One – Limestone 10, Barton 8 (seven innings)
The Saints hit three home runs in the game – including the game-winning three-run round-tripper from Trace Whetsell (Gilbert, S.C.) in the bottom of the sixth inning – as Limestone rallied from a 7-0 deficit to take the win.

Chase Allen (Sharpsburg, Ga.) and Matt Hilderbrandt (Bowmanvile, Ontario, CANADA) added two-run home runs for the Saints in the victory as well.  Justin Greider (Ridgeway, S.C.) (2-0) earned the win after allowing just one run over the final five innings to go along with five strikeouts.

Barton senior outfielder Troy Maslowski (Cary, N.C.) and senior second baseman Hunter Pearre (Poolesville, Md.) had two-run hits to help stake the Bulldogs to the seven-run advantage midway through the third inning.  Pearre finished with two hits while junior Fredrick May (Folsom, Calif.) (1-1) was tagged with the loss.

Game Two – Barton 6, Limestone 2
Barton junior Jakob Ryan (Carrollton, Va.) – the reigning league pitcher of the week – improved to 4-3 on the season after allowing just two runs over eight innings of work in addition to eight strikeouts.

Trailing by a 1-0 score, junior second baseman Shawn Harrison (Queens, N.Y.) gave the Bulldogs the lead for good with a two-run double in the fifth frame.  Barton then put the game away with a four-run seventh inning.  Harrison finished with two hits as the Bulldogs were able to avoid the weekend series sweep.

For Limestone, Channing Painton (Marietta, Ga.) had an RBI triple but Alex Grooms (Kings Mountain, N.C.) fell to 2-3 after being tagged with the loss.

Barton remains on the road to take on No. 8 Catawba on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m., in Salisbury, N.C., while Limestone hosts Lenoir-Rhyne on Tuesday evening at 6:00 p.m., as well.
