SAINT AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Flagler baseball team (2-0) swept a doubleheader from Barton (0-2), 11-0 and 15-8, Saturday afternoon in the 2019 opener at Drysdale Field.
Game One – Flagler 11, Barton 0
The Saints' Derick Garcia (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) (1-0) pitched six scoreless innings of one-hit ball while striking out five batters as Flagler handcuffed Barton in the first game of the year.
Flagler's Aaron Anderson (St. Johns, Fla.) and Sean Lawlor (Boca Raton, Fla.) led the home team's 13-hit attack with two hits and two runs batted in each while junior Jakob Ryan (Carrollton, Va.) (0-1) suffered the loss for the Bulldogs.
Game Two – Flagler 15, Barton 8
The Saints scored seven runs in each of the sixth and eighth innings, respectively, to rally from a 4-1 deficit to complete the sweep of the Bulldogs. Anderson had a bases-clearing double in the sixth frame while Jason Moore (Fort Myers, Fla.) hit a solo home run and finished with three hits and three RBI as well for Flagler, who totaled 20 hits in the contest.
For Barton, junior shortstop JoJo Allen (Clarksville, Tenn.) hit a solo home run and senior outfielder Troy Maslowski (Cary, N.C.) and junior catcher Brayden Olsen (Spokane, Wash.) added two hits and two runs batted in each despite the loss.
On the mound, Flagler's Ryan Ashworth (Winter Garden, Fla.) (1-0) won for the Saints in relief while sophomore Alex Hart (Raleigh, N.C.) (0-1) was tagged with the setback.
The two teams wrap up the weekend series on Sunday with a single game beginning at Noon.
