CHESTERFIELD, Va. – The Barton men's swimming team totaled 1,969 points overall to win the 2019 Yellow Jacket Invitational which concluded Sunday at the Collegiate School Aquatic Center. Randolph-Macon College served as the host institution.
In the women's competition, the Bulldogs took third overall with a total of 1,310.5 points. Catholic (1,621) took home top women's honors while 12 schools competed on both sides.
The Barton men's squad wrapped up the day with a victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:07.60. Freshman Bartlomiej Swiderski (Warsaw, POLAND) was part of the relay squad and won the men's 200-yard backstroke (1:49.62), a new school record and a time good enough to earn an NCAA Division II "B" cut for the Bulldogs.
In addition to anchoring the first-place men's 400-yard freestyle relay, Barton sophomore Colton Spence (New Hill, N.C.) also won the men's 100-yard freestyle (46.01) while sophomore Jonathan York (Midlothian, Va.) placed first in the men's 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 16:35.76.
On the women's side, junior Nicola Macdonald (Durban, SOUTH AFRICA) took the top spot in the 100-yard freestyle (51.96) – an NCAA D-II "B" cut – and was part of the first-place 400-yard freestyle relay squad. The Barton quartet of Macdonald, sophomore Adalaya Nemitz (Waxhaw, N.C.) and juniors Alayna Moore (Terre Haute, Ind.) and Kleanza Cathers (Kitimat, British Columbia, CANADA) touched the line in 3:35.19.
Meanwhile, Barton freshman Carrington Clack (Garner, N.C.) established a new program mark in the women's 200-yard butterfly (2:17.66).
Barton men's and women's swimming next hosts Lenoir-Rhyne in a dual meet on Saturday, January 4, at the Harrison Family YMCA in Rocky Mount, N.C., beginning at 1:00 p.m.
