Barton volleyball ends season with 3-1 setback to Emmanuel in league tournament semifinals

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The Barton volleyball team (15-16) fell to Emmanuel (Ga.) (22-8) by a 3-0 score in the semifinals of the 2018 Conference Carolinas Championship Saturday evening at the Shaw Athletic Center, the Lions' home court.

Emmanuel defeated Barton by scores of 25-23, 25-19 and 25-18 and advanced to the league tournament finals to take on Belmont Abbey (23-9) on Sunday at 3:00 p.m.  The Crusaders won in five sets over King (18-11) in the other conference championship semifinal match earlier in the day.  Barton was the second seed in the North Division while Emmanuel is the South Division's top seed.

The Lions – who beat the Bulldogs for the second time this year – were led by Julie de Blanck (Copenhagen, DENMARK) with 12 kills while Stephanie Hardy (Durham, N.C.) added 28 assists and a pair of service aces in the victory.  Emmanuel limited Barton to a 0.008 hitting percentage and pushed its winning streak to 12 matches.

Barton was led by sophomore outside hitter Kaytlin Elkins (Hope Mills, N.C.) with 14 kills and senior setter Angelica Acevedo (Coamo, PUERTO RICO) with 28 assists in addition to eight digs in the setback.   Elkins finished the season with a league-high 505 kills.  Senior outside hitter Haley Headley (Callao, Va.) chipped in with seven kills for the Bulldogs in the season finale as well.
