Barton volleyball suffers 3-0 loss to Belmont Abbey on Senior Day

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton volleyball team (14-15, 10-4) fell to Belmont Abbey (21-9, 12-2) by a 3-0 score on Senior Day Saturday afternoon at Wilson Gymnasium in a Conference Carolinas showdown.  The Crusaders – who earned the league's north division championship – won by scores of 25-23, 25-15 and 25-22.

Belmont Abbey, winners of seven straight matches, was led by Mackenzie Chrapliwy (South Bend, Ind.) with 14 kills while Brianna Morgheim (Spring Hill, Tenn.) added 10 kills the win.  In addition, Cassidy Bonito (Pompano Beach, Fla.) finished with a double-double – 36 assists and 11 digs – as the Crusaders avenged an earlier loss on the season to the Bulldogs.

Barton was led by sophomore outside hitter Kaytlin Elkins (Hope Mills, N.C.) with a match-high 16 kills while Camryn Frederick, a sophomore outside hitter as well from Huntersville, N.C., added nine kills but the Bulldogs hit just .182 for the match.  The Bulldogs' senior setter, Angelica Acevedo (Coamo, PUERTO RICO), totaled 32 assists and nine digs in the losing effort as well.  Elkins, however, increased her league-leading kill total to 460.

Both Barton and Belmont Abbey will host quarterfinal round matches of the 2018 Conference Carolinas Tournament Championship on Tuesday, November 6, at 6:30 p.m.  The Bulldogs are the second seed in the league's north division while the Crusaders will be the top seed.  Barton takes on Limestone, the third seed from the South Division, while Belmont Abbey hosts Southern Wesleyan – the fourth seed from the South Division.

The league tournament semifinals and final will be played on the campus of the highest seed remaining after the quarterfinal round on Saturday, Nov. 10 and Sunday, Nov. 11.  The Conference Carolinas Women's Volleyball Championship winner will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Women's Volleyball Championship.
