WILSON, N.C. – The 2018 Barton College women's volleyball schedule will start with an almost 5,000-mile trip to Anchorage, Alaska as the Bulldogs will participate in the University of Alaska Anchorage Invitational.
The Bulldogs captured their second-straight Conference Carolinas Women's Volleyball Championship in 2017 and qualified for the NCAA Division II Women's Volleyball Championship. BC finished the season with a 23-8 overall record and 13-1 mark in league play. The Bulldogs also notched a 14-match winning streak during the regular season and dropped just seven sets during that span.
"I'm very excited about our 2018 schedule," said head coach Jeff Lennox, who is entering his seventh season at the helm of the Bulldogs. "In the first few weekends, we will see some quality non-conference opponents who will eventually be regionally and nationally ranked. This will show us our strengths and weaknesses early and our opportunity for growth in those areas. We will be tested and learn a ton from these matches and it will propel us into our conference schedule. This aligns with our goal of learning and improving daily for myself, our players and the team as a whole."
The 2018 schedule features 30 matches including seven at home for the Bulldogs, which will take place inside Wilson Gymnasium. BC hosts Chowan University to open their home slate for a non-conference matchup on Sept. 19 at 6 p.m. Barton hosts league rival, the University of Mount Olive on Sept. 25 at 7 p.m.
BC will take part in three tournaments throughout the regular season (UAA Invitational, Queens Fall Classic, USC Aiken Invitational) and one tri-match that will be hosted by Wingate University. The Bulldogs will face seven programs through its first 14 matches that qualified for NCAA Tournament a season ago.
The Queens Fall Volleyball Classic, which is hosted by Queens University (N.C.) will see the Bulldogs face Georgia College, Anderson University (S.C.), Augusta College, and Queens. Georgia College, Anderson University, and Augusta College each punched their tickets to the NCAA Tournament last year and appeared in the Southeast Regional bracket along with Barton.
Barton opens league play on Sept. 14 with a matchup against King University in Bristol, Tennessee. The Bulldogs then face Belmont Abbey College on Sept. 21 in a rematch of the Conference Carolinas Championship from last season.
A four-match road-trip will see the Bulldogs travel to face league members Limestone College, Converse College, and Mount Olive.
BC will finish the regular season at home with a pair of matched on Nov. 2-3 against Lees McRae College and Belmont Abbey College.
The 2018 Conference Carolinas Women's Volleyball Championship will open on Nov. 6 with quarterfinal matches being held amongst eight teams. The semifinals and finals will then be hosted by the highest remaining seed on Nov. 10-11. Barton will look to capture a third-straight league championship after posting a combined 27-3 conference mark over the last two seasons.
