AIKEN, S.C. – The Barton College women's volleyball team blanked Fayetteville State, 3-0, before falling by the same margin to Augusta University Saturday at the USC Aiken Invitational.

Senior Courtney Wiseman hit .550 in the opener while posting double-figure kills for the first time this season with 13. Freshman Kaytlin Elkins recorded a match-high 14 kills, and junior Haley Headley added a career-high eight kills.

In the loss to Augusta, Elkins again led the Lady Bulldogs with 10 kills, while Wiseman and Miranda Miller each added seven. Miller also contributed 12 digs, matching her Barton career-high set yesterday. Angelica Acevedo collected 25 assists and 19 digs against the Jaguars, while Riley Bane gained a team-high 26 digs.

Elkins, who averaged nearly 15 kills per set over Barton's four tournament matches, was later named to the event's all-tournament team.

The split left Barton with a 3-6 record and ended a stretch of nine straight matches on the road. The Lady Bulldogs are slated to make their 2017 home debut on Tuesday at 7 p.m. against Francis Marion University.

Barton 3, Fayetteville State 0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-19)

Three early kills by Wiseman put Barton up 8-3 in the first set. The Lady Broncos (1-4) closed to within a point at 11-10 following a BC error, but a kill by Headley and three more by Wiseman gave the Lady Bulldogs momentum and a 15-11 lead.

A kill by Elkins extended BC's advantage to 18-11 before FSU rallied to within three at 19-16 following a BC error. However, a Fayetteville State error gave Barton possession, and an Acevedo ace started a BC run that put the set away.

Wiseman had seven of her 13 kills in the opening frame.

Elkins collected seven kills in the second set, which Barton claimed after opening up a big lead midway through the frame. A kill by Wiseman and an Ashley Owen ace helped the Lady Bulldogs begin to separate from the Lady Broncos.

Trailing 18-12 in the third, Fayetteville State cut Barton's deficit down to a single point at 19-18 following Alexis Hollis' second service ace in a row. However, Headley delivered a pair of kills down the stretch and Bane collected back-to-back aces to help close out the win for Barton.

Augusta 3, Barton 0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-17)

Trailing 12-6 in the first set, Barton used two kills by Wiseman and another by Miller to rally within a point at 14-13. However, the Lady Bulldogs committed a service error and two attack errors over three of the next four points, allowing the Jaguars (6-3) to pull away again.

Barton trailed 9-8 in set two when Augusta went on an 11-1 run to surge in front. McKenzey Beck recorded three of her seven second-set kills during the span. Beck finished the contest with a match-high 16 kills.

In set three, the Lady Bulldogs fell behind early 11-4 and never recovered. Barton never led in the final frame, as Augusta collected 15 of its 25 points by kills.

The double-double recorded by Acevedo was her sixth of the season, and the 26 digs by Bane marked her fourth match of 20 or more this year.
