LEXINGTON, KY. – The Barton College women's volleyball program has earned a Team Academic Award from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).
The Lady Bulldogs were honored as an All-Academic Team for maintaining at least a 3.3 grade point average as a team during the 2016-17 academic year, while also winning the program's first Conference Carolinas Tournament and appearing in the NCAA Division II Regional.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
Barton was one of five teams from Conference Carolinas and 12 from the Southeast Region among the 118 NCAA Division II programs on the list nationally.
The 2016-17 roster included seniors Breyonna Brown, Mariana Kedzia, Kaitlyn Micol and Laura Peed, juniors Riley Bane, Olivia Daley, Miranda Miller, Courtney Wiseman and Janay Yulis, sophomores Angelica Acevedo, Allie Cullens, Haley Headley, Hayley Marshburn, and Maddison Thomson, and freshmen Victoria Hampton, Sierra Hill and Kelsey Riquelme.
