RALEIGH, N.C. – Several Barton College track team members participated Friday and Saturday in the Raleigh Relays, one of the largest outdoor meets on the East Coast.
More than 120 collegiate programs were represented, most of them NCAA Division I teams. Eight Barton student-athletes met the meet's stringent qualification standards and took part in a total of nine events over the two-day meet, held at North Carolina State University's Paul Derr Track.
Jasmine Watson, BC's lone female competitor, was the top NCAA Division II performer in the 100-meter hurdles and placed 18th overall in the field of 50 with a mark of 14.87 seconds.
Micah Clemons finished in the top half of the men's hammer throw (14th of 30), although his toss of 50.95 meters did not approach his NCAA provisional marks of the past two weeks, for which he was twice named Conference Carolinas Men's Field Athlete of the Week.
Clemons also recorded an effort of 14.02 meters in the shot put, the better of two marks so far this outdoor season but nearly a meter off his school record. He placed 20th in the event out of 25 participants.
Also posting marks in the meet were Collin Wilks in the 100-meter dash (11.38 seconds, 44th place), Nihgel Scott in the 400-meter run (50.34 seconds, 38th place) and Joel Lagat in the 1500-meter run (4:10.40, 116th place).
Larry Russell, competing in the elite invitational division of the high jump, did not clear the bar in his three attempts at 2.0 meters, and also fouled out of the triple jump. Aaron Jones was disqualified from the 400-meter run after posting what would have been a top-15 time, and the 4x400-meter team posted a DNF (did not finish).
Barton's full teams will return to competition Friday and Saturday in the VertKlasse Meeting, hosted by High Point University.
