WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's tennis team (11-6, 4-2) suffered a 5-2 setback to Erskine (6-8, 5-1) in a Conference Carolinas contest Saturday morning at the Bulldogs' complex.

The Bulldogs – thanks to victories at second and third doubles – took a 1-0 lead entering singles' play but the Flying Fleet rallied for their fourth straight win.  In singles competition, the Bulldogs had one-set leads in No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 singles but Erskine came back to take all three.

Barton senior Daria Avram (Buzau, ROMANIA) won at first singles over Erskine's Faith Wright (Columbia, Mo.) by a score of 7-5 and 6-1 while the tandems of junior Marissa Stevenson (Kirk Michael, ISLE OF MAN) and senior Vanessa Sanoja (Bolivar, VENEZUELA) at second doubles and freshman Isabella Caballero (La Paz, BOLIVIA) and sophomore Claudia Capellades (Barcelona, SPAIN) at third doubles also prevailed.

Caballero and Capellades – who beat the Flying Fleet's Rachel Berkey (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) and Eileen Rickert (Charleston, S.C.) by a 6-2 score – have won eight straight matches as a doubles' pair.

The Barton women's tennis team returns to the court on Friday, April 5, against Converse in Spartanburg, S.C., in a league match beginning at 3:00 p.m., while Erskine hosts Belmont Abbey on Friday as well at 2:00 p.m.
