Barton women’s tennis outlasts Tiffin (Ohio), 4-3, to run victory streak to four

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The Barton women's tennis team (7-3) continued its winning ways by outlasting Tiffin (Ohio), 4-3, Friday morning at the Van de Meer Tennis Center.  The Dragons lost their fourth straight match and fell to 3-5 on the year.

Barton freshman Isabella Caballero (La Paz, BOLIVIA) and sophomore Claudia Capellades (Barcelona, SPAIN) both won at singles and doubles as the Bulldogs rallied from a point down to take four of the six singles matches on their way to their fourth straight win.

Caballero and Capellades won at third doubles while Caballero defeated Tiffin's Lauren Prince (Ashbourne, UNITED KINGDOM) in three sets at No. 4 singles, 6-4, 2-6 and 10-5.  Meanwhile, Caballero improved to 8-1 on the season in singles competition.

Barton senior Daria Avram (Buzau, ROMANIA) won at first singles for the third straight match while junior Marissa Stevenson (Kirk Michael, ISLE OF MAN) pulled out a 7-5, 3-6, 13-11 victory over the Dragons' Emily Sim (Kirby in Cleveland, UNITED KINGDOM) at No. 2 singles.  Stevenson remained unbeaten on the year (8-0) in singles play as well.

The Barton women's tennis team opens Conference Carolinas play on Tuesday, March 12, against Belmont Abbey on the road beginning at 2:00 p.m., while Tiffin hosts Ashland next Saturday, March 16.
