Barton women's tennis rolls to 7-2 win on Senior Day

WILSON, N.C.-Barton College won five singles matches in straight sets en route to a 7-2 Conference Carolinas women's tennis victory over visiting Belmont Abbey College on Monday at the Barton Tennis Complex.

Barton (10-9 Overall, 6-4 Conf.) has secured its first 10 win season and first winning record in league play since the 2005-06 season.

The victory secured the No. 6 seed in the Conference Carolinas Tournament for the Lady Bulldogs and Barton will play No. 3 seed Mount Olive College in the quarterfinals on Friday at 9 a.m. The 2012 Conference Carolinas Tournament is hosted by Erskine College at the Sumter Tennis Center.

The Royal Blue and White held a 2-1 lead after doubles on the strength of an 8-6 win by the duo of junior Lindsey Frederick and sophomore Mika Deane and a 8-5 conquest by the tandem of sophomore Caroline Fischer and freshman Alicia Lasry.

Frederick-Deane improved to 13-6 paired together in the top doubles position.

Barton coasted to the victory in singles behind the strength of wins by No. 2 Frederick (6-1, 6-0), No. 3 Lasry (6-2, 6-2), No. 4 Fischer (6-2, 6-3), senior No. 5 Lindsay Toth (6-0, 6-3) and sophomore No. 6 Kristy Lievense (6-0, 6-0).

Toth was honored before the start of the match as part of Barton's senior day festivities.
