Barton women’s tennis notches 7-2 win at Lees-McRae

BANNER ELK, N.C.-The Lady Bulldogs swept doubles competition and sophomores Mika Deane and Kristy Lievense each coasted to singles wins as the Barton College women's tennis team rolled to a 7-2 Conference Carolinas victory at Lees-McRae College on Saturday.

Barton bounced back from two consecutive 7-2 losses with its own 7-2 win to move back over .500 at 8-7 overall and 4-3 in the league.

Deane and junior Lindsey Frederick coasted to an 8-3 win in the top doubles showdown. Sophomore Caroline Fischer and freshman Alicia Lasry helped BC complete the doubles sweep with an 8-5 triumph in the other match contested.

Deane and Frederick advanced to 11-4 paired together.

The 2011 All-Conference honoree from Auckland, New Zealand kept up her strong play in singles action with convincing 6-2, 6-4 victory in the marquee matchup. Deane boasts a 9-6 singles record.

Lievense moved up to the third position for the first time this season and was successful with a 6-4, 6-1 conquest. Lievense maintains a 4-2 singles ledger.

The Lady Bulldogs were aided by three forfeit wins and had secured the team victory after sweeping doubles. 

Barton next hosts Conference Carolinas rival Coker College on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
