SALISBURY, N.C. – Freshman goalkeeper Kristin Davis recorded her first career shutout and the Bulldogs offense tallied a pair of goals on Sunday afternoon as Barton College defeated Mars Hill University 2-0 at the Catawba Classic.

Barton (3-1) recorded its third shutout of the season as it limited the Lions to just three shots on goal. Both teams recorded eight shots in the contest. Mars Hill (1-4) delivered all three of its shots on goal in the second half as the Lions outshot BC 6-3.

Senior Laisy Scardazzi scored her third goal of the season for the Bulldogs, while freshman Brenna Keegan scored her second goal of the season for BC. Senior Jordyn Brown recorded the other shot on goal for the Bulldogs, while junior Rebekah Beal tallied her team-leading second assist of the season.

Paige Thompson paced the Lions with two shots on goal, while Jessica Zedek tallied the other shot on goal for Mars Hill. Samantha Pyle and Sanne Martinsen each took a pair of shots that wouldn't find the net for the Lions.

Barton found its way onto the scoreboard in the 31st minute of play as Beal crossed a ball that would be tapped by Keegan past Lions netminder Clare Witt. The goal from Keegan would be the only shot on goal for either team in the opening half. BC held a 5-2 advantage in shots through the opening 45 minutes of play.

Mars Hill would make a goaltending change to start the second half as Tonje Jorgensen took over for Witt. The Lions would look the knot the score with an opportunity in the 64th minute as Thompson had her shot denied by Davis. Thompson found herself with another chance in the 73rd minute but would again be denied by Davis.

Brown tallied the Bulldogs' first shot of the half in the 83rd minute but would be unable to find the back of the net against Jorgensen. A free-kick in the 87th minute upped the BC lead to 2-0 as Scardazzi beat Jorgensen from the top of the box.

The Lions would get one late opportunity to get onto the scoreboard as Zedek tried to beat Davis only to see her thwart another shot for Mars Hill.

Davis (1-0) notched her first win in net for the Bulldogs while making three saves. Witt (1-2) took the loss for the Lions after allowing a goal on the lone shot that she faced for Mars Hill. Jorgensen made one save while allowing one goal for the Lions.

Barton will head to Spartanburg, S.C. for a meeting with Converse College on Tuesday as the Bulldogs will open Conference Carolinas action against the Valkyries at 3 p.m.
