Barton women’s lacrosse wins big over Southern Wesleyan, 13-3, in league contest

SENECA, S.C. – The Barton women's lacrosse team (4-2, 2-1) rebounded with a 13-3 win over Southern Wesleyan (1-6, 0-2) Saturday afternoon in Conference Carolinas action at Clemson University's LoConte Field.

The Bulldogs were led by sophomore attacker Angelina Scarpa (Hicksville, N.Y.) with a match-high six goals while junior midfielder Morgan McGuffin (Huntingtown, Md.) added two scores and an assist as the Bulldogs raced to an 8-0 lead on their way to the easy victory.  Scarpa leads the squad in total points with 24:  13 goals and a team-high 11 assists.

Southern Wesleyan's Latia Santos (Powder Springs, Ga.) scored all three goals for the Warriors but the home squad was out of the game quickly.  The Warriors' goalkeeper, Kaeleigh McDaniel (Saint Augustine, Fla.), did manage 15 saves in the losing effort.

Barton held a decisive held edge in shots taken (36-14) while sophomore Katherine Mattena (Salt Lake City, Utah) earned the win in goal after playing the first half and stopping four shots.

Both schools will host Ohio Valley next week:  Barton on Thursday afternoon at 3:00 p.m., and Southern Wesleyan on Tuesday starting at 3:00 p.m., as well.
