WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's lacrosse team is preparing to take the field for its third season this Saturday under new mentor Regan Denham against Erskine beginning at 10:00 a.m., at the Bulldogs Athletic Complex.
"I am really proud of the work that the team has put in this fall and the last few weeks of the preseason," said Denham. "I have set our team expectations high and know that our effort and hard work will pay off this spring. As we look towards opening up Erskine, we cannot be more excited."
The 2019 slate has 15 games including eight contests at home. A trio of non-league games at home include Coker (Tuesday, February 12), Ohio Valley (Thursday, March 14) and Embry-Riddle (Fla.) (Friday, March 22).
The conference portion of the schedule includes a Saturday, March 16, date at home against Limestone at Noon. The Saints (17-3, 9-0) were the 2018 conference regular season and tournament champions and earned a berth to the NCAA Division II Playoffs.
The Bulldogs (5-10, 3-6) look to improve on last season's mark. Barton returns junior defender Rebecca Fraser (Chesapeake, Va.), 2018 All-Conference Carolinas second-team honoree who led the league in ground balls last season with 84.
Several top offensive players from last year return for the Bulldogs as well including sophomore midfielder Kayli Ashenfelter (Stewartstown, Pa.) with 33 goals and sophomore attacker Angelina Scarpa (Hicksville, N.Y.) with 18 goals, a team-high 22 assists and 40 total points.
