WILSON, N.C. – The Barton College women's golf team will kick off its 2017-18 season with a home tournament at Cutter Creek Golf Club in Snow Hill, N.C., the first of four events on the fall portion of the schedule.
The Lady Bulldogs will host the Cutter Creek Invitational September 4 and 5 on the same course which will be used to contest the 2018 Conference Carolinas Tournament next April.
"The field for our home tournament at Cutter Creek will once again be very solid," said Ashley Leonard, who is entering her fifth season as head coach. "We already have five other conference teams committed to play, and we will also host Southern New Hampshire University and Sandhills Community College. Our team really enjoys playing Cutter Creek, so I look for us to get off to a good start this fall."
Barton will compete in a rare Saturday-Sunday event on September 23 and 24 at Old South Golf Links in Bluffton, S.C, just across the bridge from Hilton Head Island.
"The tournament in Hilton Head will be hosted by UNC Pembroke and will be a new event for us," Leonard said. "The field has historically been very strong, so this will certainly test our team. I know our ladies will return to campus in August ready to go and continue to work hard. The momentum and confidence gained from our final round at the conference tournament will hopefully carry over into our fall season."
The Lady Bulldogs will complete the fall portion of their schedule with two familiar tournaments, the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate and the Patsy Rendleman Invitational. Barton has played in the Myrtle Beach event in every season of the program's six-year existence, and has taken part in the Rendleman tourney four previous times.
This year's Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate will be held October 2 and 3 on the Panther's Run course at Ocean Ridge Plantation in Ocean Isle Beach, N.C. The Patsy Rendleman Invitational, which is hosted annually by Catawba College, will take place the following week at the Country Club of Salisbury in Salisbury, N.C.
"With no seniors on the team this year it will be important for some of our younger players to step up and continue to lead our program," Leonard said. "I am really excited to see the girls compete in practice and carry that into tournament play this fall."
The spring 2018 portion of Barton's schedule will be announced in the fall.
