SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Barton College women's golf team slipped three spots to 14th place in the final round of the Converse Spring Invite by Founders FCU on Tuesday after a team round of 348 at Carolina Country Club.
The score was 13 shots higher than Monday's first round, dropping the Lady Bulldogs in the final standings of the 19-team tournament.
Sophomore Sydney Turner and freshman Clare McMahon carded BC's best rounds on Tuesday, both posting an 86. Sophomores Maria Garcia and Kelsey Woodall produced scores of 87 and 89, respectively, and senior Abby Glover recorded a 97.
Turner collected a 36-hole total of 168 (82-86) to tie for 43rd place in a 98-player field. McMahon tied for 52nd place (85-86 171), as did Woodall (82-89 171). Garcia finished in a tie for 60th place at 173 (86-87), while Glover placed 91st at 201 (104-97).
Host Converse won its own tournament with a final-round score of 309 and two-day total of 627. The Valkyries edged fellow Conference Carolinas member King University by four strokes to claim the title. Lincoln Memorial University, which entered the day in second place, fell to third on Tuesday, nine shots back of Converse.
Marley Felthousen of Converse maintained her first-round lead to seal individual medalist honors. Felthousen fired rounds of 73 and 76 on the 5,881-yard, par-72 layout for a total of 149 and a one-shot victory over Alexa Rippy of Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) University.
Barton will return to action in three weeks when it co-hosts the 2017 Lady Trodog with University of Mount Olive at Lane Tree Golf Club in Goldsboro, N.C.
