CENTRAL, S.C. – The Barton Women's Basketball Team (11-3, 4-3) bounced back with a dominant victory over Southern Wesleyan (6-7, 1-4), 82-50, Saturday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas contest at Tysinger Gymnasium.
Barton senior forward Kianna Wynn (Knightdale, N.C.) led the way with a game-high 27 points on 12-of-19 shooting and moved into third place on the Bulldogs' all-time scoring list. Wynn, the team's leading scorer this year (23.4 ppg), now has 1,748 points for her collegiate career as she surpassed Shemkia Reid (1,747 points).
The Bulldogs – playing in their first road league game of the year – also received 13 points and four treys from freshman guard Alexa Roberson (Virginia Beach, Va.). Barton jumped out to a 45-15 lead at halftime and never looked back.
Barton senior guard Dinah Neal (Browns Summit, N.C.) rounded out the scoring in double figures for the visitors, totaling 11 points as the Bulldogs held a 46-29 advantage on the glass and limited the Warriors to just 34 percent shooting (21-of-62) for the game.
Southern Wesleyan – losers of three straight contests – was led by Lisana Burnett (Peekskill, N.Y.) with 10 points but was the lone player to score in double figures for the home team. Barton led by as many as 37 points – 78-41 with 3:34 remaining in the contest – in the victory as well.
Barton returns home to take on King (Tenn.) in a Conference Carolinas game at Wilson Gymnasium Tuesday beginning at 5:30 p.m. Southern Wesleyan, meanwhile, hosts league-foe Limestone Tuesday at 5:30 p.m., as well.
