WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (7-0) kept its perfect record on the year with a 51-38 win over Fayetteville State (3-3) Wednesday evening at Wilson Gymnasium.

The Bulldogs' defense was the story of the contest, limiting the Broncos to just 30 percent shooting (16-of-54) and forcing 27 turnovers in the win.  Barton was led by senior forward Kianna Wynn (Knightdale, N.C.) with 18 points including 16 in the second half while sophomore center Shanika Peterkin (Virginia Beach, Va.) notched her second double-double on the year – 11 points and 12 rebounds – to go along with five blocks in the triumph.

Fayetteville State's Katisha Hyman (Chocowinity, N.C.) and Shantel Bennett (Sanford, N.C.) each scored eight points in the losing effort.  However, poor shooting doomed the Broncos, who missed all eight three-pointers on the night.

Barton held a 31-28 advantage at the end of three periods before its offense came alive in the final stanza as the Bulldogs scored 20 points in taking control of the contest.  Barton also held a 43-39 margin and totaled seven blocks in the victory.

Barton opens Conference Carolinas play on Saturday at home against North Greenville beginning at 2:00 p.m., while Fayetteville State travels to Wilmington, N.C., to take on UNC Wilmington on Saturday at 1:00 p.m., in an exhibition.
