Barton’s Shanika Peterkin named the Conference Carolinas Women’s Basketball Player of the Week

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Barton College's Shanika Peterkin has been named the Conference Carolinas Women's Basketball Player of the Week, league officials announced earlier today.

Peterkin, a sophomore center from Virginia Beach, Va., tallied a triple-double – 12 points, 14 rebounds and 11 blocked shots – in leading the Bulldogs to a 63-58 victory over Elizabeth City State last Monday on the road.  Peterkin also had three assists and two steals in the contest.

Peterkin averages 9.0 points and a team-leading 11.2 rebounds on the season.  Peterkin also leads the conference in blocked shots (4.6 bpg) and is shooting 52 percent from the field.  

Barton (5-0), off to its best start in eight years, will host Chowan tonight at 6:00 p.m., at Wilson Gymnasium.  The Bulldogs are also ranked fifth in the latest D2SIDA Southeast Regional Rankings.
