WILSON, N.C. – The 2018-19 Barton College women's basketball schedule is highlighted by an eight-game homestand, with the team's home-opener at Wilson Gymnasium against Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Member Saint Augustine's University set for November 13 at 6 p.m.
The Bulldogs will officially open their season by heading to Augusta, Ga. for a pair of games against Augusta University and UNC Pembroke on November 9 and 10, respectively, as part of the Peach Belt Conference/Conference Carolinas Challenge.
"We begin the season with a challenging tournament in Augusta that features two teams that play at a high level," said Wendee Saintsing, Barton's 30th-year head coach. "These two games will give us a barometer of where we are as a team and what we'll need to work on moving forward."
Barton's home schedule features matchups against 2017-18 Conference Carolinas regular-season champion Limestone College on Feb. 2, second-place finisher Belmont Abbey College on Dec. 4, and rival University of Mount Olive on February 12.
The Bulldogs hit the road for two games against Coker College (Nov. 17) and Elizabeth City State University (Nov. 19) before opening an eight-game homestand on Nov. 26 against Chowan University at 6 p.m. BC begins the defense of its 2017-18 Conference Carolinas Women's Basketball Championship title on Dec. 1 against North Greenville University at 2 p.m.
BC will also host league contests against Emmanuel College (Dec. 8), Erskine College (Dec. 15), Converse College (Dec.17), and Lees-McRae College (Jan. 2).
The first conference road matchup for the Bulldogs comes on Jan. 5 as Barton travels to Central, S.C. to face Southern Wesleyan University at 2 p.m.
The month of January will see the Bulldogs play six contests on the road with five of them coming in a row between Jan. 12-26. The five-game road-trip opens with North Greenville University on Jan. 12 in Tigerville, S.C. and concludes with a Jan. 26 matchup against Erskine College in Due West, S.C. at 2 p.m.
Barton hosts its final regular-season league matchup on Feb. 12 against Mount Olive. BC went 1-1 against the Trojans last season, including a 90-79 victory at home on Jan. 10, 2018. The Bulldogs close the regular season on the road with contests against Lees-McRae (Feb. 16), King University (Feb. 23), and Limestone (Feb. 26).
The Bulldogs return eight players from the 2017-18 campaign that saw Barton rebound from a 3-5 start to win 11 consecutive games and return to the NCAA Div. II Southeast Regional Tournament. BC finished the season with a 23-9 mark after dropping an 81-76 decision against nationally-ranked University of North Georgia.
The league's post-season tournament is slated to begin on March 4 with quarterfinal matchups being held at the higher seeded teams. The Conference Carolinas Women's Basketball Championship will be held on Friday, March 8. The tournament will once again be a bracket-style tournament with eight teams qualifying based upon league standings at the end of the regular season. The higher seeds will host the first round, with the highest remaining seed hosting the final two rounds of the tournament.
