Barton women’s softball rolls to doubleheader sweep of Elizabeth City State, 15-2 and 21-1

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – The Barton College softball team (10-13) swept a road doubleheader from Elizabeth City State (0-9), 15-2 and 21-1, Wednesday night at South Park Complex.

Game One – Barton 15, Elizabeth City State 2
The Bulldogs put the game away early, scoring 14 runs in the first two innings including a 10-run second frame.  Barton was led by senior first baseman Jessica Onega (Belle Glade, Fla.) with three hits and three runs batted in while senior Teagan Crosby (Walterboro, S.C.) improved to 3-3 after earning the victory in relief.

Game Two – Barton 21, Elizabeth City State 1
Barton once again jumped out early on the Vikings – leading 18-3 after three innings of work – on its way to the sweep and its third consecutive victory.  The Bulldogs' freshman shortstop Mikayla Rose (Beaufort, N.C.) hit a three-run home run while three players totaled at least three hits in the contest as the visitors put up a single-high in runs scored.

On the mound, junior Sierra Hearp (Roanoke Rapids, N.C.) improved to 3-0 after earning the win in relief.

Barton remains on the road to take on Converse in its on Saturday, March 16, at 2:00 p.m., in a Conference Carolinas doubleheader in Spartanburg, S.C.  Elizabeth City State hosts Shaw in a doubleheader on Friday at 3:45 p.m.
