WILSON, N.C. – The Barton softball team (2-7) suffered a 12-2 setback over Charleston (West Virginia) (1-0) in six innings Sunday afternoon at wet and cold Jeffries Field.  The contest was originally scheduled to be a doubleheader but weather limited the two teams to a single contest.

The Golden Eagles' Carly Turner (Springfield, Ohio) hit a two-run home run and finished with three runs batted in as Charleston used a six-run sixth inning to run-rule the Bulldogs.  Gracie Donato (Chesapeake, Va.) added a two-run double for Charleston, who was aided by six Barton errors.

The Bulldogs scored both of their runs in the bottom of the second on a two-run single from sophomore outfielder Taylor Freeman (Stern, N.C.) but Barton was held off the board the rest of the way.

Charleston was playing its first game of the season.  On the mound, Turner (1-0) struck out nine batters to earn the win while Barton senior Hannah Jones (Huntersville, N.C.) (1-5) was tagged with the loss.

Barton hits the road to take on Claflin in a doubleheader next Saturday, February 23, at 2:00 p.m., in Orangeburg, S.C., while Charleston faces Mount Olive on Monday in Mount Olive, N.C., beginning at 2:00 p.m.
