HIGH POINT, N.C. – Barton College junior Jessica Onega has been named the Conference Carolinas Softball Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday
Onega was honored after batting .684 with a home run, 12 RBI and eight runs scored over six games last week. She had four multi-hit games and four multi-RBI games in leading the Lady Bulldogs to a 4-2 record.
The Belle Glade, Fla., resident currently has a five-game hitting streak, and has produced at least one run, one extra-base hit, and one RBI in each of those games as well.
Despite starting just 13 of Barton's 24 games, Onega still ranks second in the league in RBI for the season with 17. With enough plate appearances to qualify, her .432 batting average would lead the conference.
The award is the first for Onega, who transferred to Barton this season from Palm Beach State College, and the second this year for the Lady Bulldogs.
