HIGH POINT, N.C. – Barton College freshman Jordan Blake has been selected as the 2018 season's first Conference Carolinas Softball Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
Blake had a memorable collegiate debut on Saturday, producing four hits, two of them home runs, and driving in six runs in a doubleheader split with Chowan.
The Jackson Springs, N.C., resident ripped a solo home run in her first collegiate at-bat in game one. She opened game two with an RBI double in the first inning, blasted a grand slam to center field in the second inning, and added a single in the fifth to finish off a three-hit, five-RBI game.
The performance in game two helped Barton post a 10-3 victory over the Hawks.
Blake, a former all-state selection for Pinecrest High School, is the first Barton freshman to receive the league's weekly offensive award since Megan Kelly in 2014. Sierra Hearp was honored with the league's weekly pitching award as a freshman last season.
