Barton men’s volleyball downs Southern California, 3-1, for second consecutive victory

LEBANON, Tenn. – The Barton men's volleyball team (2-2) defeated an NCAA Division I school for the second straight day Saturday with a 3-1 takedown of USC (3-2) on the second day of the Grow The Game Challenge at Dallas Floyd Phoenix Arena on the campus of Cumberland University.

The Bulldogs prevailed over the Trojans by scores of 26-24, 21-25, 25-17 and 26-24.  In the very close first and fourth sets, Barton scored the final three and four points, respectively, to stun USC.

Barton was led by the tandem of senior outside hitter Vasilis Mandilaris (Chalkida, GREECE) and junior right side hitter Angelos Mandilaris (Chalkida, GREECE) with 15 kills each. 

Meanwhile, freshman outside hitter Adrian Iglesias (Guaynabo, PUERTO RICO) tallied 14 kills and junior setter Oscar Fiorentino (Bayamon, PUERTO RICO) dished out 45 assists and totaled nine digs in the victory for the Bulldogs, who hit .356 for the match.  Individually, Iglesias finished with a .409 hitting percentage.

USC was led by Ryan Moss (Corona del Mar, Calif.) with 19 kills and Jack Wyett (Laguna Beach, Calif.) with 17 kills despite the loss.  The Trojans were hurt by 16 service errors as well.

On Sunday on the final day of the Grow The Game Challenge, Barton takes on Quincy at 4:00 p.m., while Southern California faces Lindenwood (Mo.) beginning at 6:30 p.m.
