Barton men's volleyball falls in 2019 season opener to George Mason, 3-1

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's volleyball team (0-1) fell to NCAA Division I George Mason (2-0) by a 3-1 score Saturday evening at Wilson Gymnasium in the Bulldogs' 2019 season opener.  The Patriots downed the Bulldogs by scores of 25-18, 25-22, 19-25 and 25-16.

The Patriots, winners for the second time in two days, were led by Hayden Wagner (York, Pa.) with 15 kills while Sam Greenslade (Millersville, Pa.) added nine kills and Justin Coleman (Saugas, Calif.) totaled 38 assists in the victory.  George Mason hit .326 for the match and totaled 12 service aces.

Barton was led by senior outside hitter Vasilis Mandilaris (Chalkida, GREECE) with 10 kills and freshman outside hitter Adrian Iglesias (Guaynabo, PUERTO RICO) and Angelos Mandilaris (Chalkida, GREECE) with nine kills each. 

The Bulldogs, who avoided a sweep with a victory in the third set, also received 31 assists and five digs from junior setter Oscar Fiorentino (Bayamon, PUERTO RICO) in the loss.

Barton hosts the defending national champion and No. 1-ranked Long Beach State on Friday night at 7:00 p.m., while George Mason next hosts Erskine on Friday, January 11, at 7:30 p.m., as part of the Uvaldo Acosta Invitational.
