Mandilaris selected as men's volleyball program's first AVCA All-American

LEXINGTON, KY. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) is proud to announce its 27th annual AVCA Division I-II Men's All-America Teams and Barton sophomore Vasilis Mandilaris has been selected to the list.

Mandilaris, the program's first-ever All-American honoree, was chosen as an honorable mention following a season that saw the Bulldogs win the 2017 Conference Carolinas Championship and advance to the NCAA National Tournament.

The Chalkida, Greece native was also a First Team All-Conference honoree as an outside hitter after leading the Bulldogs with 305 kills and ranking just outside the nation's Top 25 with 3.32 kills per set. He hit at a .337 mark over 92 total sets, placing him 21st in the NCAA, and recorded 133 digs and 37 service aces.

The awards will be presented at the NCAA Men's Volleyball Championship Banquet on the campus of Ohio State University on Wednesday, May 3. The 2017 selections were made by the AVCA Division I-II Men's Volleyball All-America Committee: chairperson Dan Friend (Lewis); Jay Hosack (George Mason), Danny Goncalves (NJIT), Mike Rumbaugh (Saint Francis), Ryan Perotte (Fort Wayne), Mark Hulse (Loyola-Chicago), Alan Knipe (Long Beach State), Charlie Wade (Hawai'i), Jeff Nygaard (USC), David Heller (Mount Olive), Brandon Skweres (Limestone), Ryan Booher (King).
