MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The Barton men's volleyball team was forced to play four sets, but earned its sixth consecutive Conference Carolinas victory with a 3-1 (25-17. 25-14, 22-25, 25-16) decision over Pfeiffer University on Saturday afternoon.
Barton, which improved to 15-5 overall and 13-2 in league play, assured itself of a home match in the first round of the Conference Carolinas Tournament, while the Falcons fell to 0-14 with a 0-13 conference record.
The Bulldogs opened the match by hitting .346 in the opening set of play, committing just two errors en route to an eight-point win. The second set was also won by Barton, this time by an 11-point margin, as Pfeiffer hit a dismal -.231 as a team.
In the third, the Falcons rebounded to hit .464 as a unit to win just its second set of the season. A few of Barton's regular starters were inserted back in to the lineup for the final set, leading to a 25-16 win to secure the match victory.
Fellow senior Jonathan Novoa-Miralles filled up the stat sheet, finishing with six kills, nine digs and five service aces, as freshman Angelos Mandilaris had nine kills and five service aces of his own to contribute to Barton's season-high 16 total service aces.
The Bulldogs return to Wilson for a non-conference contest with St. Andrews University on Tuesday March 28 at 7 p.m. in Wilson Gymnasium.
