DUE WEST, S.C. – After almost two weeks away from competition, the Barton men's volleyball team picked up right where it left off with a 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-11) win over conference opponent Erskine College on Friday night.
The Bulldogs improved to 13-4 overall with their fifth straight win and moved Conference Carolinas record to 11-2, while the Flying Fleet fell 3-13 with a 3-9 mark in league play.
Barton, which hit .508 for the match, stormed out of the gate with an early 7-2 lead in the first set. The BC lead grew to a 10-point margin, before Erskine cut the deficit to seven points, However, Barton scored seven of the final eight points to take the win.
The two sides kept it close in the early going of the second set, but Barton ended the frame on a 6-1 run to take a 2-0 lead in the match. BC hit .545 in the third set, committing just one attack error, to cruise to the straight-set victory.
Sophomore Aleksa Brkovic and freshman Angelos Mandilaris each finished with 12 kills in the match and combined for five total service aces. Senior setter Federico Pagliara paced the offense with 30 assists, while also chipping in five total blocks.
Barton continues its weekend road trip tomorrow with a league matchup against Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, Ga. at 2 p.m.
