WILSON, N.C. – The Barton College men's volleyball team opened its 2017 season in winning fashion, downing the Battlers of visiting Alderson Broaddus University 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-17) on Friday night in Wilson Gymnasium.
Barton (1-0) controlled the match from start to finish, opening the first set with a 10-4 run to take an early lead. The Battlers (0-1) cut the deficit to four points midway through the set, however BC score four of the frames final five points to seal the opening set win.
Alderson Broaddus responded with a rally to begin the second set of play, leading 4-2 following a kill from Terrell Hightower. The Bulldogs tied the set at 8-8 on a kill from freshman Vasilis Mandilaris and used a 12-3 run to claim a nine-point lead and force an ABU timeout. The teams traded points following the breather but Barton's lead was too much for Alderson Broaddus to overcome.
