INDIANAPOLIS – Barton College junior Larry Russell has been selected to participate in the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships later this month in Charlotte, N.C., the NCAA announced Tuesday.

Russell was one of 18 athletes chosen to take part in the long jump, which will take place on Thursday, May 24, at 2:30 p.m. at the Irwin Belk Complex on the campus of Johnson C. Smith University.

The Sicklerville, N.J., resident will be making his second straight appearance in the outdoor championships and fourth national appearance overall.

Russell earned All-America honors in the event with a third-place finish last year in Bradenton, Fla., and did the same earlier this year with a fifth-place showing indoors in Pittsburg, Kan. He first appeared on the national stage during the 2017 indoor season, where he placed 15th in the long jump and eighth in the high jump in Birmingham, Ala.

He will enter next week's championship seeded 15th among the 18 competitors based on his season-best jump of 7.44 meters, or 24 feet, 5 inches, which he recorded at the VSU Trojan Invite in Ettrick, Va., on April 21st.

Russell posted a career-best mark of 7.72 meters, or 25 feet, 4 inches, during the third-place finish at last year's outdoor national championship. That distance would rank fourth on this year's seed list heading into the championship.
