HIGH POINT, N.C. – Barton College junior Larry Russell has been named the Conference Carolinas Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
Russell was honored after posting a national top-10 mark in the long jump while winning the event at the VSU Trojan Invite on Saturday in Ettrick, Va. The Sicklerville, N.J., resident made a leap of 7.44 meters, the eighth-best in NCAA Division II this season.
In addition to that NCAA provisional mark, Russell finished second in the finals of the 110-meter high hurdles in a personal record time of 15.26 seconds, and placed fourth in the triple jump with an effort of 14.16 meters, his best mark this year that was not wind-aided.
Russell is receiving the league's Athlete of the Week award for the third time in his career in outdoor competition and for the eighth time overall. He is the second Barton team member to claim the award this season, joining sophomore Micah Clemons, who has earned it twice in 2018.
