GREENSBORO, N.C. – Barton College junior Justin Alford and freshman Micah Clemons both improved upon their own school records Sunday during the final event of the 2016-17 season, the Aggie Last Chance Meet held at North Carolina A&T University.

Alford, a resident of Middlesex, N.C., topped both his previous Barton outdoor record of 4.0 meters and his indoor record of 4.06 meters with a leap of 4.1 meters, or 13 feet, 5 1/4 inches, in the meet at Irwin Belk Track.

Clemons, a resident of Greenville, N.C., broke the 15-meter barrier in the shot put for the first time in his young career with a toss of 15.01. His previous Barton school record had been 14.97 meters, set last month at the USC Open.

Two personal records were set as well, both by seniors and former Beddingfield High School products in the 1500-meter run. Tyler Amerson closed out his career with his top mark at that distance, 4:21.91, and Heather Cuddington did so on the women's side following an effort of 5:02.94.

Senior Semaj Street and sophomore Larry Russell both competed in hopes of improving their NCAA provisional standings, but neither achieved a new high mark. Russell tied for sixth out of 15 competitors in the high jump with a leap of 2.03 meters. Street placed fifth in the 100-meter finals with a sprint of 10.85 seconds, and finished 18th out of 64 in the 200 with a time of 21.4 seconds.

Russell is still expected to receive an invitation to the 2017 NCAA Division II Outdoor National Track and Field Championships in the long jump, where he finished the year ranked eighth nationally. Bids will be announced by 6 p.m. Eastern on Tuesday.
