ELON, N.C. – The Barton College men's track team won five events and set four school records on Saturday at the Phoenix Invitational, hosted by Elon University

Junior Joel Lagat took first place in the 1500-meter run with a BC outdoor record of 3:58.92. Sophomore Larry Russell claimed the long jump with a leap of 7.27 meters, and freshman Russell Corbett captured the top spot in the shot put (13.57 meters), just .01 ahead of freshman teammate Micah Clemons.

Barton also won both relay races, defeating NCAA Division I program High Point University head-to-head in the 4x100-meter relay in a school-record time of 41.66 seconds, and leading a field of five teams in the 4x400-meter relay with a mark of 3:19.52. Juniors Collin Wilks and Aaron Jones, sophomore Nihgel Scott and senior Semaj Street combined to earn the 4x100 record.

The other outdoor school records were set by freshman Raheme Dawkins in the hammer throw (46.06 meters) and junior Justin Alford in the pole vault (4.0 meters). Dawkins jumped from 15th on the league's performance list all the way to third with his throw, which came in a third-place finish.

Dawkins also placed third in the javelin, another of the six top-three finishes posted by the Bulldogs on top of the event victories. In addition to his win in the long jump, Russell also placed second in the triple jump. Street earned a runner-up finish in the 400-meter run, and Scott added a third-place showing in the 200-meter dash.

Besides those established with the school records, 11 other personal records were achieved by Barton team members in the meet. They included Wilks in the 100-meter dash, Street in the 400-meter run, Marquez Lemon in the 800-meter run, Tevin Aitken in the 1500-meter run, Clemons in the hammer throw and javelin, Avery Smith in the hammer throw and javelin, Hunter Hinson in the hammer throw and javelin, and Corbett in the javelin.
