Barton men’s tennis picks up 6-1 home victory over King (Tenn.)

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's tennis team (10-8, 5-2) upended King (Tenn.) (8-9, 4-4) by a 6-1 score Sunday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas contest at the Bulldogs complex.

Three players for the Bulldogs – sophomores Diego Agudelo (Bogata, COLOMBIA), Oscar Marmestedt (Akersberga, SWEDEN) and Hugh Ryder (Dartmouth, ENGLAND) – won at both singles and doubles as Barton moved into a third-place tie in the league standings with Belmont Abbey.

Agudelo prevailed at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles including a 7-5, 6-2 triumph over the Tornado's Lennard Neumann (Bad Honnef, GERMANY) in singles' competition.  Meanwhile, Ryder continued his impressive play of late by increasing his winning streaks in singles and doubles action to four and five, respectively. 

Ryder's 6-0, 6-1 win over King's Sebastian Lieflaender (Wegberg, GERMANY) at sixth singles improved his record in singles' play to 8-1 in his last nine matches.

Barton hosts Lees-McRae on Monday morning at 11:00 a.m., in a Conference Carolinas contest and the home finale while King takes on Chowan in Murfreesboro, N.C., on Monday at 11:30 a.m.
