WILSON, N.C. – After serving Barton College for two seasons as head coach of the men's and women's tennis teams, Matt Rowe has resigned, school officials announced Thursday.
"Matt Rowe has submitted his resignation from the head coach of men and women's tennis. Barton College is appreciative of Coach Rowe's contributions and wishes him well," said Todd Wilkinson, Barton's director of athletics. "The search for a new head coach will begin immediately. I am confident that Barton College and the quality of the program in place will attract highly qualified candidates."
Barton's men's program totaled 28 wins over Rowe's two seasons and won the 2017 Conference Carolinas Men's Tennis Tournament Championship, the second such title for the Bulldogs.
The women's team struggled in Rowe's first season at the helm, but improved its win total by nine last season and finished as runner-up in the 2017 Conference Carolinas Women's Tennis Tournament.
Among the players he coached were five all-conference selections and numerous academic all-conference honorees.
Rowe's resignation is effectively immediately.
