Barton’s McCartney earns third career all-conference nod

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Conference Carolinas announced its annual Men's Tennis All-Conference team on Thursday afternoon, placing Barton's Jake McCartney on the list for the third time in his career.

For the third year in a row, the all-conference awards were handed out based on a season points system rather than by a vote of the league's head coaches. The league honors 12 individuals as members of two singles all-conference teams, while six athletes earn a place on the doubles all-conference team.

McCartney, selected as a member of the singles second team, was a first team selection following both the 2014 and 2015 seasons and was also the 2014 Freshman of the Year.

The senior from Thames, New Zealand was 11-7 overall during the season and posted a 7-3 singles record against conference opponents in both the No. 1 and No. 2 singles positions. He also collected a No. 1 singles win late in the season against NCAA Division I opponent East Carolina University.

Barton begins play in the Conference Carolinas Tournament tomorrow as the No. 4 overall seed. The team's quarterfinals matchup with No. 5 seed King University is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. in Sumter, S.C.
