HIGH POINT, N.C. – On Wednesday, the Conference Carolinas' league office released its 2016-17 Men's Tennis Preseason Coaches' Poll, ranking the Barton College Bulldogs second overall on the list.

Barton was voted second overall with 75 total points and was 14 points behind University of Mount Olive who was selected as the top team in the poll with 89 points, including eight first place votes.

Limestone College was selected third overall, followed by King University in fourth. Belmont Abbey College and Pfeiffer University tied for fifth place with 60 points each and one first place vote apiece.

The Bulldogs were 13-10 overall last season, which included a 7-2 mark in Conference Carolinas play, earning them a spot in the conference tournament. BC defeated No. 6 seed North Greenville University 5-2 in the tournament quarterfinals before falling to No. 2 seed University of Mount Olive 5-1 in the semifinals.

The Royal Blue and White are led by second-year head coach Matt Rowe who returns a team with five players who saw playing time on the court a year ago, including two all-conference honorees in seniors Jake McCartney and Yaxi Pintado.

McCartney is a two-time all-conference selection and was the team's No. 1 singles player last season, posting a 10-8 overall record with a 14-8 mark in doubles play. Pintado, a third team all-conference selection a year ago, was 16-5 overall in competition at the No. 3, No. 4 and no. 5 singles positions, while notching a 14-8 recording in doubles play. The duo combined for 12 wins as doubles partners, including a 7-2 conference record.

Sophomore Jesus Gil saw time at multiple singles positions last year and finished his first collegiate season with six singles wins and 12 victories in doubles play. Senior McKennon Griffin and junior Robby Taylor also return after seeing limited action on the court during the 2015-16 season.

Coach Rowe brought in a host of new faces to the program to compete for playing time including Juilian Bosch (Bergisch Gladbach, Germany) and Ermanno Galimberti (London, England). The pair combined for five individual wins and two individual titles in fall competition.

The Bulldogs open their season on Friday, Feb. 3 against Campbell University in Buies Creek, N.C. at 2 p.m.
