MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Barton men's soccer team (8-5-1, 4-4-1) fell in a close contest to rival Mount Olive (5-8-1, 3-6), 2-1, Tuesday night on the road at Amon Field in a Conference Carolinas match.

The Trojans, who snapped a five-game losing streak, received goals from Sam Murphy (Letterkenny, Donegal, IRELAND) and Santiago Zapata (Medellin, COLOMBIA) in the 54th and 74th minutes of action, respectively, to jump out to a 2-0 advantage and were able to hold on for the victory.

Barton cut the lead in half at the 75:20 mark of the second half – less than two minutes after the Trojans' second goal – when sophomore forward Ruben Mancio (Cadiz, SPAIN) headed the ball into the net off a save that bounced off the crossbar right in front of the goal.  The score was Mancio's team-leading 11th goal of the year.

Mount Olive held a 14-7 advantage in shots taken while goalkeeper Austin Porter (Charleston, S.C.) earned the victory after making four stops.  Barton junior goalkeeper Francisco Noguera (Santiago, CHILE) also made four saves but suffered the loss.

Barton wraps up Conference Carolinas regular season play on Friday when the Bulldogs travel to Bristol, Tenn., to take on King beginning at 3:00 p.m.  Mount Olive faces Southern Wesleyan in Central, S.C., on Saturday night starting at 7:00 p.m.
