WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's soccer team (8-4-1, 4-3-1) lost its second straight league contest with a 4-2 setback on Senior Day to Lees-McRae (7-5-2, 3-3-2) Saturday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas match at the Bulldogs' Athletic Complex.
The Bobcats' Harvey McMorrow (Maidstone, ENGLAND) scored twice as Lees-McRae broke a 1-1 tie by taking control with three second-half goals including two within 18 seconds of each other. McMorrow scored with just 40 seconds left before halftime to deadlock the score at one before Johannes Oeksnevad (Hommersaak, NORWAY) tallied the match-winner in the 52nd minute, the second of three straight goals for Lees-McRae.
Barton sophomore midfielder Pol Monells (Barcelona, SPAIN) opened the scoring in the 26th minute - his seventh of the year - after taking control of a loose ball and finding the back of the net. Senior midfielder Tolly Beatson (Gillingham, ENGLAND) scored his sixth goal of the year off a free kick at the 57:17 mark of the second half despite the loss for Barton.
Lees-McRae's Pol Vassart (Tournon-sur Rhone, FRANCE) added his league-leading 14th goal of the season and assisted on the match-winner while Anton Sundstrom (Ostersund, SWEDEN) earned the victory in goal after making five stops. Barton's Francisco Noguera, a junior goalkeeper from Santiago, CHILE, suffered the setback despite six saves.
Barton looks to get back on track when the Bulldogs travel to Mount Olive, N.C., to take on Mount Olive on Tuesday night beginning at 7:30 p.m. Lees-McRae hosts King Tuesday in a league match Tuesday as well.
