WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's soccer team (2-1, 0-1) suffered its first loss of the 2018 season with a 3-0 home setback to Belmont Abbey (1-2, 1-0) Saturday afternoon at the Barton Athletic Complex.  The contest was also the Conference Carolinas opener for both teams.

The Crusaders' Nando Morales tallied a goal and an assist including a header off a failed clear attempt just 3:16 into the match as Belmont Abbey notched its first win of the season.

Belmont Abbey's Sander Herlofsen made it 2-0 with another header off a corner in the eighth minute before Adam Lindskog rounded out the scoring just over one minute into the second half for the visitors.

Despite the score, Barton and Belmont Abbey both finished with 14 shots on the afternoon.  The Bulldogs' Pol Monells, a sophomore midfielder from Barcelona, SPAIN, led the way for the home team with five shots including three on goal.

Belmont Abbey's Ben Knust earned the shutout win in goal after finishing with seven saves on the afternoon while Barton's junior goalkeeper Francisco Noguera (Santiago, CHILE) suffered the setback despite making five stops.

Barton looks to return to the win column on Wednesday when the Bulldogs travel to Aiken, S.C., to take on USC Aiken beginning at 7:00 p.m.  Belmont Abbey, meanwhile, remains in league play on Wednesday against Emmanuel.  The match is set for 6:00 p.m., in Franklin Springs, Ga.
