TIGERVILLE, S.C. – The Barton men's lacrosse team (5-11, 3-4) suffered an 18-8 setback to North Greenville (7-8, 4-3) Saturday afternoon at Pepsi Stadium in a Conference Carolinas contest and the regular season finale for the Bulldogs.
Austin Dixon (Simpsonville, S.C.) and Ethan Landreth (Moonville, S.C.) each scored four times as the Crusaders pushed their winning streak to five games while dealing the Bulldogs their third straight setback.
Barton freshman midfielder Mark Crawford (Chesapeake, Md.) led the Bulldogs with three goals while freshman midfielder Hunter Huxoll (Dunkirk, Md.) and junior midfielder Bodin Nichols (Brainerd, Minn.) scored twice in the losing effort.
Landreth broke a two-all tie with the game-winner at the 3:35 mark of the first period and the Crusaders scored nine of the next 11 goals to take control. North Greenville also held advantages in both shots taken (58-26) and ground balls (37-15) while Braeden Dixon (Simpsonville, S.C.) earned the win in goal after making 12 saves. Meanwhile, sophomore goalkeeper Matt Stocks (Endicott, N.Y.) suffered the setback despite totaling 14 saves for the Bulldogs.
Barton and North Greenville will both compete in the 2019 Conference Carolinas Championship Quarterfinals on Tuesday, April 23. The two teams will play each other – the Bulldogs as the fifth seed and the Crusaders seeded fourth – in Tigerville, S.C., in the opening round.
