WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's lacrosse team, in its first year of intercollegiate competition, has released its 2019 schedule.
"We had a productive fall laying down the foundation for our program," said Barton Head Coach Warren Shumate. "I am excited for us to carve out our place within the extremely competitive Conference Carolinas. As our field nears completion, we cannot wait to open our season in what will be one of the premier facilities in the region."
The Bulldogs' slate will feature 16 contests including eight home games. Barton's first-ever game will take place on Saturday, February 2, at home against Lincoln Memorial University beginning at 2:00 p.m. The Railsplitters, a member of the South Atlantic Conference, finished 14-4 last year.
Other SAC games on the schedule include a home match against Coker (Saturday, February 23) and road contests against Newberry (Saturday, February 9) and Tusculum (Saturday, March 9).
A pair of neutral site contests include dates with Felician in Baltimore, Md., on Sunday, February 17, and Wilmington (Del.) in Virginia Beach, Va., on Tuesday, March 26. Both Felician and Wilmington are second-year programs.
Barton also hosts three non-conference games against schools who started men's lacrosse last spring as well: Montevallo (Friday, March 1), Palm Beach Atlantic (Monday, March 4) and Embry-Riddle (Tuesday, March 12).
The Bulldogs open the league portion of their schedule on Tuesday, February 26, against Belmont Abbey at home. The Crusaders (14-4) won the Conference Carolinas Tournament last year. Barton plays Limestone on the road on Wednesday, April 10. The Saints (11-8) tied the Crusaders for the conference regular season championship last season and has won the NCAA Division II National Championship five times.
The 2019 Conference Carolinas Men's Lacrosse Tournament will begin on Tuesday, April 23, with the quarterfinals at the higher seeds and the semifinals and finals taking place on the campus of the University of Mount Olive on Friday, April 26, and Sunday, April 28, respectively. There are 28 players on the initial roster for the Bulldogs.
