GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Barton men's basketball team (21-7, 14-4) ended the regular season with a seventh straight victory, 86-67 over Limestone (14-14, 8-10) Tuesday evening at the Timken Center.
Three players scored 13 points for the Bulldogs – senior forward Bobby Stenborg (Garner, N.C.) and sophomore forwards Blake Burdack (Melbourne, AUSTRALIA) and Isaiah Reddish (Durham, N.C.) – as the visitors showed tremendous scoring balance with six players reaching double figures in the victory.
Barton jumped out to a 41-29 advantage at halftime and led by as many as 22 points – 62-40 and 64-42 midway through the second half – in completing the season sweep of the Saints. The Bulldogs also came up big on the defensive end as well, limiting the Saints to just 37 percent shooting (25-of-67) for the contest.
Limestone was led by Evans Moreau (Ocala, Fla.) with a game-high 21 points but Saints hit just eight-of-27 attempts from beyond the three-point line in suffering their second straight loss.
Barton also reached 21 wins for the first time in six years – 23-8 in 2012-13 – and finished in a second-place tie in the league standings with Belmont Abbey.
Barton is the third seed in this year's Conference Carolinas Tournament Championship and will take on sixth-seeded King (15-13, 8-10) in the quarterfinal round at Wilson Gymnasium while seventh-seeded Limestone faces No. 2-seeded Belmont Abbey (21-7, 14-4) in its first-round contest. Both games take place on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m.
