WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's basketball team (7-2, 1-1), ranked No. 20 in NCAA Division II, couldn't overcome Belmont Abbey (7-2, 2-0) in a 93-79 setback in Conference Carolinas action Tuesday night at Wilson Gymnasium.
The Crusaders' DeQuan Abrom (Upper Marlboro, Md.) led all scorers with 32 points as Belmont Abbey rallied from a 10-1 deficit to start the game and the visitors remained unbeaten in league play on the season. Belmont Abbey also hit 11 three-pointers and shot 61 percent (19-of-31) in the first half in building a 52-43 advantage at intermission.
Barton sophomore forward Blake Burdack (Melbourne, AUSTRALIA) finished with a team-high 24 points but the Bulldogs were done in by a season-high 21 turnovers which led directly to 28 points from Belmont Abbey. Barton sophomore forward Isaiah Reddish (Durham, N.C.) added 16 points off the bench to go along with four steals.
Belmont Abbey hit 24-of-30 free throws on the night including 18-of-20 in the second half in pulling away from Barton. The Crusaders' Romeao Ferguson (Burlington, N.C.) added a double-double – 11 points and 12 rebounds – as Belmont Abbey registered its second straight victory.
Barton hosts Emmanuel (Ga.) in a league game on Saturday afternoon at Wilson Gymnasium beginning at 2:00 p.m., while Belmont Abbey hosts North Greenville on Friday with a tip time set for 7:30 p.m.
